Our exploration of the ancient world in this class is largely focused on three major cultural regions: the Near and Middle East, Egypt, and Greece and Rome. Each of these three cultures produced objects that are impacted by and involved in a variety of contemporary debates. Exploring these issue-laden debates not only expands our understanding of modern issues that impact our study and understanding of these ancient objects, but also brings to light how cultural histories continue to impact and affect the modern world.
For each of these special topics days, a regional team worked together and shared their investigations with the class. In addition, each individual team member was responsible for composing a position paper, bringing their individual voices into these evolving and complex debates.
